With Auston Matthews locked in with an extension, attention now shifts to another crucial member of the Leafs core with an expiring contract, William Nylander.
Nylander's Extension Update from Treliving
Rumors indicate Nylander is hesitant to accept a pay reduction to remain with the Leafs, reportedly seeking a sum in the 8-figure range.
Brad Treliving shared that Nylander does have the intention to continue with the Leafs.

«I'm not going to get into the play-by-play of it other than to say he's a very good player and you always want to keep the good players,» Treliving said. «And he's told me he wants to be in Toronto. That's the most important thing. If there's a desire on both sides, then you should be able to come to an agreement."
While the Leafs and Nylander haven't reached an impasse, it's crucial to highlight that both sides are open to mid-season negotiations. Contrary to earlier assumptions, Nylander might not be traded if a deal isn't finalized before the season begins.
«It starts with the understanding that we think Willy is a top player and we want him and he's telling me he wants to be there, so hopefully we can find a way to get it done,»
All signs point to Nylander donning the Leafs jersey for the upcoming season.
Projected Leafs Top 6 Lineup
Under Treliving's leadership, the Leafs have tackled the primary fan concern: the team's physicality.
The probable top 6 lineup seems:
Knies - Matthews - Marner
Bertuzzi - Tavares - Nylander
As the season progresses, expect players like Domi and Nick Robertson to shuffle within the lines.
This team's unmatched depth surrounding their core four players arguably makes it the most formidable Leafs roster to date.
