The Toronto Maple Leafs have had a very busy summer so far, making many moves to alter their roster. While most teams would be happy with those changes, and shift their focus to the start of the season, Toronto wants more.
Toronto Wants More Grit
Despite the additions of Ryan Reaves, Tyler Bertuzzi, and Max Domi, Leafs GM Brad Treliving wants to add more grit and toughness to his Leafs lineup.
Insider Elliotte Friedman revealed this information on NHL Network.
«I don't think they're done there yet, I don't know if it will be a Ryan Reaves type on defense, I don't know if those players exist anymore, but I do think they're going to try and get longer, meaner and nastier on the blueline»
While we doubt most fans would blame Treliving from wanted tough players to play with his superstars, we don't know how Treliving will make it work.
No Money
The Toronto Maple Leafs are already over the NHL's salary cap with their recent spree of signings, and adding another defenseman would only make it worse. Even then, they still wouldn't have their starting goaltender, Ilya Samsonov, signed to a contract.
While it's understandable that Treliving wants to make more additions, we don't see how he can do it without subtracting some high-cost players from his roster.
