Discussions are intensifying about potential changes the Toronto Maple Leafs need to make to their roster before the trade deadline. Opinions vary: some argue for enhancing offensive depth, others point to defensive issues, while a significant number believe that General Manager Brad Treliving should prioritize improvements in goaltending.

Pierre LeBrun recently discussed this topic in an article. He linked the Leafs to one of the top goalies in the league.

LeBrun Links Marc-Andre Fleury to the Toronto Maple Leafs

LeBrun noted that the Leafs tried to get Fleury two years ago under General Manager Kyle Dubas, and they might consider to try again. Nonetheless, several factors must be weighted in.
The Minnesota Wild, still contenders for the playoffs, have not ruled out their chances this season. General Manager Bill Guerin has stated that if the team's playoff hopes diminish, he would be open to trade Fleury. LeBrun added that Fleury must also speak with his agent, Allan Walsh, due to his full no-trade clause, which requires Fleury's consent for any trade.
LeBrun further mentioned that other teams, like the Carolina Hurricanes and the Edmonton Oilers, are also interested in Fleury. The Maple Leafs would need to present an interesting offer the the Wild in order to land him.
Here, you can read his full statement, as published on The Athletic:
"The Wild have not given up on this season. He (Guerin) thinks they can have a second half surge, they still believe they can be a playoff team. But, Guerin acknowledged that if they fall out of it, he expects teams to call and he expects to have a discussion with Marc-Andre Fleury."

"Fleury has to have that discussion with his agent Allan Walsh in the next couple weeks. They have a full no-move (clause). It's up to Walsh and Fleury, if he goes anywhere before the deadline. But there are some obvious teams to think about. Toronto tried to trade for him two years ago... but the Leafs still have question marks in goal. Edmonton, how about a mentor for Stuart Skinner? New Jersey, they haven't had saves all year. Carolina, how about a mentor to (Pyotr) Kotchetkov? So, there are some obvious places where Marc-Andre Fleury would fit, if he has a meaningful role. He's not gonna waive if he doesn't play. We'll see where this goes.

Is Fleury the Missing Piece for Leafs' Playoff Success?

At 39, Fleury remains a great goalie in the NHL, consistently proving he can hold his own among the league's elite.
Despite serving primarily as Filip Gustavsson's backup, he boasts an 8-9-3 record, a 2.97 GAA and a .897 SV%. While these statistics aren't the best around the league, Fleury's extensive experience could be a significant asset for any team eyeing the coveted cup. His drive for another championship win could be the missing piece that inspires both him and his teammates to perform at the best or their capabilities.
