While the NHL undoubtedly remains the most popular sport in Canada due to the countries connection to the sport of hockey, but now, the two most famous teams of all are no longer the most valuable.
The sports popularity in Canada can't be questioned, but in North America as a whole, the NHL has slipped to fourth in popularity behind the NBA, NFL and MLB, and now, the money shows exactly that.
After years and years of being the most valuable, the Montreal Canadiens and Toronto Maple Leafs have now slipped out of the top sport, according to a recent report by Sportico.
Now, the top spot belongs to the NBA's Toronto Raptors, with the Leafs sitting second, the Blue Jays in third, the Montreal Canadiens in fourth and the Edmonton Oilers in fifth.
Simply put, hockey will never be anything but an obsession for Canada, but with all of these teams playing in leagues that feature heavily across the US, it's no surprise that the Raptors and Blue Jays have pushed their way into this list where they have.
