Playing in the spotlight of the NHL's biggest media market has its good and bad sides.

There are advantages, but it also means facing a lot of attention.
This is particularly true for the 'core four' players in Toronto: Auston Matthews, John Tavares, Mitch Marner, and William Nylander.
Marner recently had some words for the critics back home in Toronto:
"You can see how excited and happy I am, whether I'm having fun around the rink or just wearing that jersey. I know there are more fans than haters out there. A lot more. The haters are just louder. There's nothing you can really do about that. Some people pretend to be friendly to your face but say a lot of negative things behind your back. So for me, it's about staying away from all that stuff. I know our team loves each other. I know every guy in that locker room trusts the guy beside him and the guy across from him. We've got a lot of joy and excitement in our locker room, and that's what keeps us going."

Big Hopes for Next Season

Whatever people say during the off-season, the true test for Toronto lies in how they perform on the ice. They aim to go beyond their second-round appearance last season and set their sights on winning the Stanley Cup, which they haven't achieved since 1967.
With the newest acquisitions by Brad Treliving, the team is in good shape, and hopes are high for next season.
Sure, there are critics in Toronto, but if the team can ignore their words and come together, they could really go far in the playoffs. They are definitely hopeful about making a big leap in the 2023-24 season.
