The Toronto Maple Leafs have a big problem. With 17 days until the free agent market opens, they have 20 players without contracts for the next season.
They don't have enough money to sign all these players because of their tight financial situation.
But let's focus on this year. Some of their players without contracts, like Ilya Samsonov, Michael Bunting, Ryan O'Reilly and Luke Schenn, have caught the eye of many teams. It's not likely that the Leafs can keep all of them. Even if they trade away some players to get more money, it won't be enough to keep everyone.
Frank Seravalli said that the Leafs might lose two good players: Ryan O'Reilly and Michael Bunting.
"Ryan O'Reilly - I don't know why people seemed to doubt this from the moment I said it back when the trade was made... There was next to no chance that he was re-signing [in Toronto].
Michael Bunting - I think they'd like to, they just can't afford it. He's sort of the next Zach Hyman."
