Many presumptions have been made regarding the Toronto Maple Leafs' starting lineup once the season starts. Especially, thanks to Toronto's strict cap restrictions and, more lately, the performance of a handful of the team's younger players.
At training camp and exhibition games, Matthew Knies, Fraser Minten, and Easton Cowan have all stood out among the bubble, and younger players. Then there is Nick Robertson, who has not made as much of an impression thanks to missing most of the last two season due to injuries. He should still get a shot at the opening night roster as well.
The potential roster
The site Editor and Leaf projects the Toronto Maple Leafs roster as:
This lineup prioritizes talent and speed. On the other hand, it most definitely isn't the kind that will win a lot of low scoring defensive games.
Toronto's preseason so far
Toronto's top scorers so far are have Connor Timmins in the lead with six points in six games, but is lost to injury for a few weeks at least. Next is Matthew Knies, he has five points in six games and should feature in the regular season top six. Easton Cowan, William Nylander. Mitch Marner, Auston Matthews, John Tavares, and Alex Steeves, all have three points in three games
Toronto currently holds a 4-1-2 preseason record, placing them second in the Atlantic. Preseason standings are obviously meaningless once the regular season begins, but the Maple Leafs should once again be a top NHL team.
