Recent reports indicate that William Nylander might be looking at the possibility of exploring the free-agent market after the season.

The Leafs' Cap Challenge and Its Impact on Nylander's Future in Toronto

It's no secret that both the Toronto Maple Leafs and Nylander want to continue their association. However, as you might suspect, the main obstacle here is money.
With a roster filled with star players, it requires exceptional financial management skills to accommodate them all. A Sportsnet analyst pointed out that Nylander is not the only player with a contract set to expire soon. Mitch Marner has just one year remaining on his deal, and it could complicate things for the team.
Difficult choices lie ahead. They may try to keep both players, but it will mean parting ways with other valuable team members.
On the other hand, the Leafs' fans' worst nightmare could become a reality: seeing both Marner and Nylander leave in free agency.
"Well sure. And you know the scary part, as mentioned in this piece, is just that if you lose Willy Nylander, like let's say you're thinking, okay, we value the cap space or we were considering trading him at the deadline, or whatever, if you don't have Willy on your roster, and then it's Mitch Marner's turn for negotiation, you're in a tough spot, because you can't afford to lose them both." - Justin Bourne

Trade Incoming? Nylander's Interest in Exploring Free Agency Could Push Treliving to Move Before the Deadline

Sam McKee adds another layer to this intriguing situation, suggesting that Nylander might be tempted by the idea of testing the free agency market. He shared his perspective:
"Well the thing that stood out to me about this piece, and it's like this when seeing it laid out in front of me, was the Lewis Gross aspect of this maybe they just want to go to UFA."

Brad Treliving has experienced a similar costly situation in the past, allowing Johnny Gaudreau to leave the Flames without compensation during his tenure in Calgary. Leafs' fans are nervously monitoring the situation, hoping history doesn't repeat itself with Nylander.
"Treliving has made it clear he doesn't want to go through the (Johnny) Gaudreau situation again, where he ends up with no options, and the player just leaves."

Also, it's hard not to notice the significant presence of scouts at the last Leafs' game, don't you think?
Do you think the Maple Leafs will trade Nylander?
