The Maple Leafs are seeing a potential career year for William Nylander, and in a contract year, they needed to ink him to a long-term deal.

Nylander signs a massive deal with the Toronto Maple Leafs

After a fantastic start to his career, many questioned whether or not William Nylander would extend in Toronto, and with the other three members of the Core Four already locked down, others saw it as a no-brainer move for both parties.
Now, it's been reported that Nylander has locked in an eight-year extension worth $11.25 million annually, and while that now brings questions about the makeup of this team, it was a well deserved contract for the young star.

Radio host rips Nylander after the reported deal

After scoring 54 points in his first 37 games this year and being a consistent threat, most Leafs fans are excited about the deal, but for some, it's just never enough.
«It stings a bit when you watch Nylander go to Sweden be the #1 star all the Leafs connections and to know that stuff has no value to any of these players.»
On the latest episode of the FAN590 radio show, the hosts rips William Nylander for not taking a home-town discount on his latest contract, and while it's understandable to be annoyed that four players take up so much of the cap space, it's hard to blame him for taking the deal that he's earned.
Ultimately, this move was a risk for Toronto as they now need to win a Stanley Cup with this group or face a tough road forward, but for Nylander, there's no way to blame him for taking the biggest possible deal, something he's earned over the past nine seasons.
