The Toronto Maple Leafs have been struggling as of late. While Martin Jones has been better than expected, the team still has very little depth in goal as Samsonov has been unreliable and Woll has been out for over a month with an ankle injury. Today, Sheldon Keefe gave an update on Woll's status.
The fact that Woll is travelling with the team is a good sign that he is making progress with his injury and is getting closer to returning to game action. However, Keefe confirmed today that he will not suit up for the team on the road trip, adding that he is unlikely to even join the team during practices. Instead, he is focusing on one-on-one on-ice training with the team's goalie coach.
Woll last played for the Leafs on December 7th, when he sustained the ankle injury and had to leave the game. He has an 8-5-1 record this season and a very respectable .916 save percentage to go along with a less impressive 2.80 goals-against-average. That being said, Woll has shown lots of potential this season as he could even be the team's starting goaltender for years to come. Hopefully, he is able to return the team soon as they could use the added depth in goal.
