In a significant development, Sheldon Keefe has decided to test Mitch Marner on the second line, thereby separating him from Auston Matthews.

Marner Reassigned to Second Line in Recent Practice Session

Mitch Marner, has been widely criticised by the media for his recent performances, despite accumulating 20 points in 19 games. His quieter presence in the last five ganes has raised questions about the efficacy of pairing him with Auston Matthews.
Responding to this situation, Sheldon Keefe has made a tactical adjustment.
In today's practice, Marner was training with John Tavares and Tyler Bertuzzi, while William Nylander was promoted to join Matthews and Matthew Knies.
#Leafs have switched up the top two lines.

This move can be interpreted as a step down for Marner, but it could be a necessary strategy for revitalizing both his and Matthews' performance levels.

A New Dynamic for Marner and Matthews

image

Throughout their tenure with the Leafs, Marner and Matthews have rarely been separated. Although the lines have fluctuated, they have mostly played together. This latest change by Keefe, which appears to hold them accountable for recent performance, acknowledges William Nylander's impressive start to the season.
The team will need to test these new line combinations over a few games to properly evaluate their effectiveness.
Flipping Marner and Nylander is the right call. Hopefully they run this top6 for 5+ games to give it a chance.

D will look better when Lilly is back. Another top 4 addition would really solidify the group.

Reaves in is not ideal but he did score. Hard to take him after that.
