Toronto Maple Leafs Caught Sending Scout To Watch Rival Team

Canadiens reporter Stu Cowan shared a list of the credentialed scouts at the Canadiens game tonight. Among the scouts listed is Derek Clancy, a pro scout for the Toronto Maple Leafs.

This has lead to many wondering who the Leafs are interested in on either of these teams. The Canadiens are clearly a team that will be selling at the trade deadline so the Leafs are likely considering a trade with their rival.

One player that the Leafs could potentially be interested in is Canadiens center Sean Monahan. Monahan has consistently been in trade rumors this season, leading most to believe that his trade is a matter of when not if. In fact, Darren Dreger has even reported that he will likely be one of the first players to come off the board.

Frank Seravalli believes the Canadiens will garner at least a first round pick in exchange for the forward this season. If they end up dealing him to the Leafs, they could get even more as they may ask for a tax considering the Leafs are their rivals.

That being said, while the Leafs could certainly use help down the middle, the team needs help on defense even more. Perhaps they could have interest in a player like Arber Xhekaj. Perhaps both players could be moved in the same trade. Only time will tell.
