An NHL analyst has reported John Tavares' future term and salary

According to TSN's Chris Johnston, there is quite a bit of mutual interest in extending Tavares' tenure with the team, and discussions about a contract extension are expected to happen soon.

Yesterday, while on the NHL Network, Mike Johnson, a former Maple Leafs forward and colleague of Johnston, discussed the recent change in team captaincy. During the discussion, he also disclosed the anticipated length of the extension that would come into effect if or when Tavares signs.

At a salary cap hit of $11 million for this season, the 33-year-old John Tavares managed to score 29 goals and earn 65 points last season. It is anticipated that he will surpass those statistics in the upcoming season. Nevertheless, considering his age, the Leafs are expected to negotiate a contract that will reduce approximately half of his current cap hit. That would definitely make it more manageable for the team to retain his services.
