The Toronto Maple Leafs, known for their insanely impressive ability to consistently improve their team in the NHL, have signed NCAA standout Jacob Quillan, potentially paving his way to an NHL career.

Prior to the conclusion of last season, the Toronto Maple Leafs signed Jacob Quillan from Quinnipiac University. The 22-year-old agreed to an entry-level contract (ELC) valued at $875,000 annually through the 2025-26 season. Quillan, who recorded 17 goals and 46 points in 39 games last season, was a highly sought-after NCAA free agent. The Leafs' ability to secure him is seen as a significant acquisition.
Jacob Quillan, known for his 200-foot game, has been praised by a junior prospect analyst from Breakaway Scouts, known on Twitter as @RyanMaReporting. Ryan remarked,
Quillan is a lock to play NHL games
, citing his relentless effort, size, footspeed, and defensive hockey IQ.
Additionally, Ryan compared Quillan to Brandon Tanev of the Seattle Kraken, who is the brother of newly-signed Leafs defenseman Chris Tanev.
Next season, Quillan faces a challenging year in the American Hockey League (AHL) with the Toronto Marlies. He had a brief stint in the pro game last season, managing one assist in a seven-game trial. While his offensive output may not peak next season, Quillan's intangibles make him a valuable prospect for the Leafs organization.
As an NCAA champion, Quillan brings a winning pedigree, a trait highly valued by general managers aiming to cultivate a winning culture. While it is unlikely for Quillan to appear in the NHL this year, a strong season could position him as a dark horse candidate for the Leafs' training camp in 2025-26.
The signing of Jacob Quillan showcases the Toronto Maple Leafs' commitment to consistently improving team through strategical signings, potentially acquiring future NHL stars.
