The Toronto Maple Leafs are one of the best teams in the NHL but have struggled in the playoffs and today Auston Matthews is taking extra steps to prevent that in 2024-25.

This offseason the Toronto Maple Leafs underwent a lot of changes. GM Brad Treliving fired former head coach Sheldon Keefe replacing him with Craig Berube. The team's defense will also look significantly different with Chris Tanev and other additions being made.

As a result of all of the change, the Maple Leafs will need to come together and figure out how to play with one another under the new leadership. With this in mind reports are confirming that Auston Matthews has made a change to his offseason routine to up his commitment to Toronto.

Auston Matthews returns to Toronto to train and mentor Maple Leafs prospects

This afternoon a report revealed that Toronto Maple Leafs forward Auston Matthews has returned to Toronto earlier than expected. He is in town practicing with prospects including 2024 first-round pick Ben Danford and any other players that have already returned.
Spotted earlier this week, Auston Matthews on ice joining Leafs' summer workout and prospects crew.
With Auston Matthews back in town and committed to training with his teammates it will be interesting to see how long it takes for other stars like William Nylander, Mitch Marner, and John Tavares to follow suit.
This season is a make-or-break one for the Maple Leafs core with several players nearing the end of their contracts. The team needs to take advantage of the opportunity in front of them and that clearly begins with their star player Auston Matthews.
