Leafs General Manager Brad Treliving is considering parting ways with long-time Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman TJ Brodie this offseason.
Treliving Reportedly Considering Parting With TJ Brodie This Offseason
The Toronto Maple Leafs and Brad Treliving took a lot of steps to bolster their blueline, bringing in Joel Edmundson and Ilya Lyubushkin to add bodies to their back end. However, this meant that someone had to come out of the lineup. That player was Simon Benoit and Leaf fans weren't happy about it.
Looking beyond the season, the Leafs and Brad Treliving have some options on how they want to shape their blueline for the future. TJ Brodie is the guy that everyone has their eyes on. Brodie's play has declined significantly this year, and he is slated to be a UFA this offseason. It is likely that Treliving will consider looking elsewhere instead of signing Brodie.
Brodie's Struggles This Season Could End Up Having Him Moved Down a Few Pairings
Brodie has traditionally played with Morgan Rielly, giving him a stable, at-home defenseman so Rielly can explode offensively. However, his struggles have made him inconsistent, and that means he will likely be moved down to a third pairing, or even scratched.
With the Leafs making changes on the blueline, depending on how this postseason goes, there could be some significant changes to the defensive group this offseason.
