Toronto Maple Leafs GM Brad Treliving recently explained why he chose not to shake up the "Core 4" this summer, despite another first round ouster.

Auston Matthews, John Tavares, Mitch Marner, and William Nylander were retained as Treliving stuck with his men despite trade rumors swirling throughout the offseason.
I know sometimes people fall in love with 'let's make a big change just to make a big change.' At the end of the day, you can go out and make big changes, but if they're not making your team better, to me, it doesn't make any sense.

He also said more roster changes could be on the way.
Treliving also touched on the Jani Hakanpaa situation, saying they're working through it. The free agent reached a verbal agreement with the team but failed his physical due to injury.
Treliving is open to making significant moves, but only if they clearly make the team better. For now, no trade has met that standard, so the Leafs will continue with their current roster until the right opportunity arises. Patience my friend!
