Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube has once again confirmed that his comments regarding Mitch Marner he made at the NHL draft were true.
For those wondering what Berube said about Marner at the NHL draft a couple of weeks ago, you need to look no further to Berube's recent comments, as he double downed on what he had already said. Essentially, Berube wants to coach Marner next season, and strongly believes he will be a member of the Leafs come training camp.
The Star's Kevin McGran reached out to Berube and asked him to clarify whether that meant Marner would not be traded. Berube confirmed that yes, Marner will not be traded, at least for now, and expects him to be on the team in September.
Treliving has not publicly stated that he wants to sign Marner to a long-term contract and keep him in Toronto, which led many to believe Marner would be traded. Matthews and Nylander did get words of affirmation from their GM, unlike Marner.
Berube also spoke of the initial encounter he had with Marner, and what led to it going viral all over social media.
Craig Berube was not surprised that a photo of his meeting with Mitch Marner went viral
Berube is known to have an old-school mentality, and it will be interesting to see how the players respond to him, and whether it is a style that Marner has any interest of sticking around for.
