The Toronto Maple Leafs started this season hot with two dominant wins, but since that point, they've been outscored by Chicago and Florida 7-2, showing that there are indeed plenty of flaws with this roster.

One glaring issue

While the offence has played well for the most part, the bottom-six hasn't contributed the way many expected, and now, a former Maple Leaf has taken a shot at Sheldon Keefe, perhaps explaining why these struggles exist.
[Sheldon Keefe does not] trust any of [his] depth to play, and I've been looking at this - it's a recurring theme from last year, the year before... you need to get guys extended, trusted minutes to get them in the game. If you expect Max Domi to score with 11 minutes [on the ice], or Matthew Knies with 10-and-a-half minutes... it's not going to happen and you cannot trust guys to give everything in 10-and-a-half minutes and be offensively relied on. That's something I looked at right away was the ice time.

With that type of coaching, if you're going to lay the hammer on the top guys and not find these bottom guys extended minutes and you're going to take that philosophy, again, into the playoffs, it's going to be a hard one to win with. - Kris Versteeg

Versteeg, a former Maple Leaf zoned in on Domi's lack of playing time as a reason for them not getting settled, and therefore struggling to contribute.

Time to turn it around

Thankfully, there's still 78 regular season games to go, and if they can get Domi, Knies, Jarnkrok and others in their bottom-six some consistent playing time, there's no doubt they can get hot once more.
Ultimately though, Keefe himself may see different issues with the roster, so there's a chance this doesn't get fixed, but for now, this roster has several issues, and they'll need to work hard to overcome them.
