Auston Matthews is one of the best goal scorers in the NHL today, and according to one former Champion, he may go down as one of the best in league history.

Despite being just 26-years of age, Auston Matthews has already had a fantastic career, tallying an incredible 356 goals in 548 career games played, putting him on pace to have an all-time run.
With Alex Ovechkin chasing down Wayne Gretzky's all-time goal scoring record, he's managed plenty of attention, but according to some, including Stanley Cup Champion Justin Williams, that mantle could one day be Matthews'.
"He's gonna be there. I don't think there's any doubt he's gonna be there. It seems like all the great goalscorers have a specific way of scoring. Like Ovi has perfected the one-timer and Auston Matthews has perfected the curl and drag snap shot release. It's just something different, everybody tries to replicate it but nobody can really duplicate it.

He's on pace for those same numbers and does it year over year. Auston is a very humble, matter of fact, focused guy and I can't see him slowing down. Right now I'm sure he's going about his business scoring his goals, It's a conversation that we're really going to have in the years to come. He's going to be one of the greatest goal scorers of all-time."
While most fans are focused on what Matthews is doing right now, it's safe to say that he's been every bit as good as the all-time greats through his first eight NHL seasons, and if this continues, he could end up passing Gretzky or Ovechkin's record, whoever holds it at the time.
