In a discussion on the Empty Netters podcast, Kypreos pointed out the Maple Leafs' lackluster performance from their left wingers, including Tyler Bertuzzi. He suggested Bertuzzi might be involved in a significant trade before the deadline.
"I look at Bertuzzi right now, and if they're not interested in resigning him, yes. I think he could be something that could be in play, part of a bigger pack, interesting him out and being replaced of some significance at all."

With only three weeks before the trade deadline, It's decision time for Treliving. Including Bertuzzi in a trade for a better player might be the smart move.
If the GM believes Bertuzzi will leave in the summer, trading him now appears logical.
Given his current performance, commanding a substantial salary increase seems unlikely. A compromise on a lower salary could keep him with the Leafs.
