The Toronto Maple Leafs head into the 2024-25 NHL season with several storylines already on the table. Of course there is new head coach Craig Berube's first year on the job. There is also Mitch Marner and his expiring contract at the end of the upcoming season.
With Toronto Maple Leafs training camp opening today those two topics were on the minds of everyone in attendance. The Maple Leafs took the ice and had a productive first day of training camp which began with media day.
Throughout the day players met with the media for the first time this season. Mitch Marner seems to have gotten off to a rough start with the media after refusing to answer their first question.
In a new interview with the Toronto media Mitch Marner spoke about the upcoming season. Before he even took a question from the media Mitch Marner decided to make it clear he would not be addressing or answering questions regarding his expiring contract.
The Maple Leafs will once again be heading into the season with one of their core four unsigned beyond this season. Last season this strategy came back to bite them after they left William Nylander unsigned and he excelled early in the season driving his price up.
Now the Maple Leafs, Brad Treliving, and Craig Berube will once again take the risk that Mitch Marner won't be able to follow in the footsteps of William Nylander. Until a contract is signed this story will continue to be front and center for the Toronto Maple Leafs regardless of whether or not Mitch Marner addresses it.
As more information becomes available on the future of Mitch Marner with the Toronto Maple Leafs we will pass it along to you.
