The Toronto Maple Leafs have made some big moves on the blue line this summer, and with Jani Hakanpaa's signing up in the air, there may be a move to play.
The Toronto Maple Leafs have made some solid moves under Brad Treliving, but one that didn't pan out was the signing of John Klingberg, who played in just 14 games a season ago due to ongoing health issues. Now, he is once again a free agent, and with the acquisitions of Chris Tanev and Oliver Ekman-Larsson, he's become a piece that the team simply don't need.
However, a photo of Klingberg with Pontus Holmberg has recently sparked speculation that that may not be the case after all, and with the potential Jani Hakanpaa deal falling through, the pieces could be lining up for a deal to be made.
After his performance over the past two years and the injury issues, if Klingberg were to return to Toronto, it would be on the league minimum, allowing them a seventh defenseman with plenty of experience to give the team depth moving forward. It's unclear if Treliving is interested in Klingberg again after his recent stint was a massive disappointment, but if he's interested in a return at the minimum, this could be a savvy pickup for Toronto with Klingberg's value at its lowest.
