The Toronto Maple Leafs are still prepared to move on from Mitch Marner, and now a suggested trade could see them make a huge deal with the New York Rangers.

For months now, the Toronto Maple Leafs have been surrounded by Mitch Marner trade rumours, and although Craig Berube insists that he wants to keep the star forward, a potential trade is still on the table. Now, another intriguing trade proposal has emerged that would see them land former No. 1 overall pick Alexis Lafreniere from the New York Rangers.
Maple Leafs Get:

Alexis Lafreniere
Jacob Trouba

Rangers Get:

Mitch Marner
Timothy Liljegren

In the deal, New York will swap Lafreniere and current captain Jacob Trouba with Mitch Marner and recently re-signed TImothy Liljegren, giving both teams a shock changeup to their lineup. On paper though, the Rangers get the best player in the deal, but with their top stars in Artemi Panarin, Mika Zibanejad and Chris Kreider all struggling in the playoffs, adding another playoff underperformer in Marner may not be the best idea.
If Toronto aren't interested in bringing Marner back as a UFA next summer, getting a 22-year old coming off the back of career highs in goals (28) and points (57) a year ago would be a fantastic move. Ultimately though, it's unlikely that the Maple Leafs would want to bring in Trouba on his current deal, so don't expect this one to happen anytime soon.
