The Toronto Maple Leafs were without John Tavares and Mitch Marner last night, and Sheldon Keefe just gave an important update on their health status today.
Tavares and Marner Not Experiencing Mono Symptoms Like Other Teammates
The Toronto Maple Leafs were in a tricky position last night, as they were without several key pieces of their roster. Morgan Rielly was out serving his suspension for the crosscheck at the end of the Senators game, and Mitch Marner and John Tavares were ruled out prior to puck drop with an illness.
Today, Sheldon Keefe gave an important update on Marner and Tavares' health status and clarified that they are not experiencing mono-like symptoms that teammate Conor Timmins was diagnosed with.
Marner and Tavares dealing with more «flu-like» illness, per Keefe. Not believed to be related to Timmins' mono. A couple other Leafs were also feeling sick but played anyway because Toronto didn't want to dress a short bench.
This is important news, as mono can take a significant amount of time to recover from as there is a possibility of inflaming internal organs.
Leafs Play One of Their Best Games Shorthanded as Players Step Up to the Occasion
The Leafs, despite being shorthanded last night, played one of their best games of the season. This was headlined by the success of Bobby McMann, who scored his first career hat trick.
Toronto also saw great success in their defensive play, as they only let up 15 shots on net. This came with all eyes on the Leafs' blueline in the absence of Morgan Rielly.
