Talented Maple Leafs prospect an outside shot to win a role in training camp

The 2024/25 Toronto Maple Leafs have sky high expectations once again, and after their off-season moves, they are finally expected to make the Stanley Cup run fans have been waiting for over the past decade. While the roster has been filled out well, there's still some questions left to answer, and now one intriguing prospect is becoming a potential candidate to make the roster in shocking fashion this off-season.

That prospect is 22-year old Nikita Grebyonkin, who was a fifth-round pick of the team back in the 2022 NHL Draft, and after two fantastic seasons in the KHL, he's now in North America, working hard to get his shot with the team.

In his final KHL campaign, Grebyonkin played in 67 games, tallying 19 goals and 41 assists at just 21-years of age, and with so many unknowns heading into training camp, he's a legitimate option to make the Maple Leafs roster. That all depends on the play of those in front of him, but with Nick Robertson wanting out and David Kampf, Calle Jarnkrok and Ryan Reaves currently occupying bottom-six roles, the chances are there.

Standing at 6-foot-1 with the ability to play both ends of the ice and both wing positions, Grebyonkin is poised to take new Head Coach Craig Berube and Leafs training camp by storm, and if he does, don't be shocked to see him earn playing time at some point in 2024/25.
