The Toronto Maple Leafs must attempt to re-sign pending UFA next summer Jake McCabe before it is too late.
Not many rentals have been successful for the Toronto Maple Leafs, however Jake McCabe has been one of the rare ones. Acquired in the 2023 trade deadline by the Chicago Blackhawks in exchange for Sam Lafferty and some draft picks, Jake McCabe has been everything the Leafs have wanted in a shutdown defenseman.
Shall Jake McCabe hit the market after the 2024-25 season, he would no doubt be fielding for a massive payday, as many contending teams will overpay for the premium defenseman and the qualities he provides. However, GM Brad Treliving has the chance to lock him up to an extension as of right now to avoid a further disaster next off-season.
McCabe has also become a fan favourite from the management and the locker room.
