Much was made about the Toronto Maple Leafs needing to land another star of the future in the 2024 NHL Draft, and in the first-round, they made a surprise pick of
Ben Danford, coming out of the OHL's Oshawa Generals. The move was criticised at the time, but now Danford has officially inked his entry level deal, reported by TSN's Chris Johnston.
With just two seasons of OHL experience under his belt, Danford isn't close to a move to the NHL, as he will play out another season in Oshawa in 2024/25, but with his potential, he's expected to take a huge leap forward this year. The 18-year old has great size at 6-foot-1, 188 pounds, with plenty of talent to support his frame, and with 33 points last season, the defenseman has a bright future.
The Maple Leafs have long needed a young difference maker on the blue line, so with Danford now locked up, they will be praying that he can be that star of the future for them.
