According to Elliotte Friedman, the Maple Leafs are in need of a left winger so here are three UFA options that the Leafs should consider signing to fill that gap.

Potentially the left-wing position for the Leafs can be considered their weakest point. With Nick Robertson's future on the team uncertain and Todd Bertuzzi leaving town, the spot could be open to some outside help.
Ideally, Robertson can fill the role in the top six, or even if prospect Easton Cowan he can jump into that position to start the season. It is more likely that a cautious approach will be taken with Cowan even if he makes the team after training camp. He would also have a bunch of other players to compete against to make the team.
Looking outside of the in-house talent, there are still some veteran left-wing options who are UFA's out there.
Cousins is someone that if Kyle Dubas was still in town and had his way would have been on the team immediately. Cousins is fresh off a Stanley Cup Championship with Florida and could get a spark with reuniting with former mates Oliver Ekman-Larsson and Anthony Stolarz in Toronto.
Although he might not fill in the gap of left-wing, he can fill in that position where it is needed. He is the type of player you want to play with but hate to play against. He can score a timely goal when it is needed and be the pest that is needed to get under the opponent's skin.
Max Pacioretty
This may be a weird option for Toronto given the history, but Pacioretty could be an option. He is said to have a number of offers, and Toronto could be one of them for the veteran winger.
The downside to the 35-year-old veteran is his health. If he would have had a healthy two years, he could be on the market to make $5 million a year. But with the health issues, he should be closer to the $1 million range. He did struggle with Washington last year but can thrive with Tavares or Matthews. He should be considered a low-risk high reward talent for Treliving.
James van Riemsdyk
Although he might not relive the 30 goal years in Toronto's past, JVR can probably still put up 20 goals if brought back. He can be a huge help to the power play and a net front presence that is needed. He has that chemistry with Mitch Marner and at 35-years-old could have that motivation to win a Cup in Toronto.
