The Vancouver Canucks and San Jose Sharks, projected to be behind in the Pacific Division, have been at the center of trade speculations, with recent revelations providing insights into a potential one-on-one deal.

Huge Trade Between Canucks and Sharks Falls Through

The hockey community has been buzzing with rumors of a possible trade between these teams. Now, inside informations from an NHL expert shed light on a trade proposition that eventually didn't happen.
According to Seravalli on S&P, the Tyler Myers for SJS Kevin LeBanc trade would have been straight up. But seems like #Canucks scratched that trade for the possibility that if their season goes south, they can trade Myers at the deadline themselves.
In essence, as said by Frank Seravalli, it looks like the Canucks were looking to swap Tyler Myers for Kevin LaBanc. However, they changed their minds.

Looking at Vancouver's Strategy

The Canucks' decision to hold off on the deal is based on their aspiration that Myers might bolster their chances of making it to the playoffs in 2023-24. If things don't pan out as anticipated, Myers becomes a significant trade asset they can leverage at the deadline.
Reflecting on Myers' performance last season in Vancouver, he scored 1 goal and 18 points in 78 games. While these numbers might appear low, Myers, as a physically dominant defenseman, influences the game in more ways.
Considering the recent significant trade moves we saw during the deadline, Vancouver's strategy could very well be a masterstroke.
