In light of recent events, it has been established that the actions of Alex Pietrangelo on the previous Saturday were severe enough to warrant a 10-game suspension under the guidelines of the NHL. However, the NHL has now reached a verdict regarding the imposition of this punishment.
This decision relates to Rule 70.4. According to this rule, at a play stoppage following the end of their penalties, if a player or multiple players exiting the penalty bench engage in a confrontation, additional penalties will be levied.
These penalties include a game misconduct and a ten (10) game suspension, as detailed in 70.10. However, if a player leaving the penalty bench during a stoppage of play interacts with an opponent who is deemed to be the instigator of the altercation, then the player exiting the penalty bench would not be subject to the game misconduct and ten (10) game suspension.
