The Vegas Golden Knights when down in an overtime thriller to the Philadelphia Flyers on Saturday, but it was the actions of veteran Chandler Stephenson that is drawing the most attention.
An unnecessary move from Chandler Stephenson
Early in the game, Stephenson, who is just returning from an injury took matters into his own hands, giving Garnet Hathaway this dirty, late cross check to the face.
Chandler Stephenson was given a five-minute major and a misconduct for this cross-check on Garnet Hathaway
A suspension could be on the way for the veteran forward
The Flyers unsurprisingly took exception to the move, and Stephenson was ultimately given a game misconduct and ejected, but given the NHL's thoughts on shots to the head this season, a suspension seems likely.
While there's a lot to be said about being tough and physical to intimidate opponents, there's no need for this type of move, so a suspension would help continue to erase this type of unnecessary play from the game.
