Vegas Golden Knights center Jack Eichel was ejected today after he was called for spearing Minnesota Wild winger Krill Kaprizov. The call was controversial as not everyone felt a major penalty was justified.

The call came late in the second period, with just under six minutes left in the frame. This mean that the Wild were on the powerplay for essentially the rest of the period. The original call on the ice was a major penalty, which the referees then reviewed.
Jack Eichel was assessed a five-minute major and a game misconduct for spearing Kirill Kaprizov.

Thoughts on the call? 🧐
To the surprise of many fans, the call was upheld, with the referees assessing Eichel a major penalty as well as a game misconduct for the offense. As such, the Golden Knights will be without one of their most important players for the remainder of the game.
Upheld. Five minute major and a game misconduct for Jack. Eichel's reaction in the box is amazing. I don't know about his one. I really don't.
Eichel's reaction from the penalty box showed how he felt about the call. He clearly did not agree along with many fans watching the game. However, he seemed to be more shocked than anything that the call was upheld, even after video review.

By the rulebook, it does appear as though Eichel spears Kaprizov, but the Wild superstar did sell it a bit. He would go on to score on the ensuing powerplay though, giving the Wild a 1-0 lead through two periods in a game that could ultimately decide their fate this season.
