Today a new report has come out with comments from Vegas Golden Knights goalie Robin Lehner regarding his future in the NHL.

At one point in time, Robin Lehner was one of if not the best goalie in the NHL. During his tenure with the New York Islanders and first couple of seasons with the Vegas Golden Knights Robin Lehner was electric.

Unfortunately, injuries have cost Robin Lehner the last 2 seasons of his career to this point. Despite being injured each season Robin Lehner has reported to training camp for a physical before returning home. This season was expected to be the same routine. However, Robin Lehner did not show up to training camp forcing the Golden Knights to make a statement on the matter.

Over the last couple of days fans and media have been waiting to hear more about this situation and what it could mean for Robin Lehner and today he finally broke his silence. With the preseason on the horizon, Robin Lehner released a statement that echoed many of the same comments that the Golden Knights General Manager Kelly McCrimmon released.

All I can say at this time is everyone knows why I couldn't be there. I am waiting calmly for things to be sorted out, said Lehner as per Sin Bin Vega

It remains unclear exactly what needs to be sorted out and by who. Regardless, Robin Lehner's lack of attendance at the Vegas Golden Knights training camp likely means that he will not be returning this season. With that in mind, it is starting to become a real possibility that Robin Lehner's hockey career has ended.

What will Robin Lehner's legacy be when he retires from hockey

With a potential retirement due to injury seeming likely, we can begin to take in the career of Robin Lehner and look at what his lasting memory in the minds of fans will be.

He began his career with the Ottawa Senators as one of the top goalie prospects in the sport. Eventually, he was traded to a young up-and-coming Buffalo Sabres squad. Throughout his tenure in Buffalo Robin Lehner struggled to live up to expectations. In 133 games with Buffalo Robin Lehner had a 2.77 goals-against average and a 0.916 save percentage.

After leaving Buffalo Robin Lehner embarked on a new journey heading to Long Island to play with the New York Islanders. This is where the world first learned of Robin Lehner's struggles with addiction and mental health. He became a beacon of hope as he talked openly about his mental health and getting sober.

After getting those things taken care of, Robin Lehner's on-ice play skyrocketed. With the Islanders in 2018-19, he was one of the best goalies in the NHL with a 2.13 goals against average and a 0.930 save percentage over 46 appearances. He would continue his run of success as he went to the Chicago Blackhawks and eventually the Vegas Golden Knights in 2020.

Sadly during his 3 seasons in Vegas Robin Lehner struggled to stay healthy. When he was in the lineup he was great but has now not played since the 2021-22 season.

With all of this in mind, Robin Lehner will likely be remembered by fans as a great goalie with an incredible peak. Beyond his play on the ice his name will always be connected with mental health conversations and beginning the pathway for players to seek the help they need.

As more information is provided on Robin Lehner's health and his future in the NHL we will continue to pass that news along to you.
