Despite playing for the organization for the better part of the past 10 years, including winning the franchise's lone Stanley Cup, the Washington Capitals have now officially placed Evgeny Kuznetsov on waivers.
It's not yet clear if something behind the scenes motivated this move or rather just his declining level of play, but with a cap hit of $7.8 million over the next two seasons, it's unlikely that he's claimed by any team.
In 43 games in 2023-24, Kuznetsov posted just 6 goals and 17 points for the struggling Capitals offense, and at 33-years of age, it's now safe to say that his future in the NHL is up in the air.
