The Florida Panthers head coach Paul Maurice shared an update on Aleksander Barkov's health in a new interview.
After last night's 4-1 win, Maurice should have been happy during his post-game press conference, but he was visibly upset about Leon Draisaitl's dirty hit on Aleksander Barkov in the third period.
If he had good news to share then, he would have. Instead, he simply said:
"The league will take a look at it. They look at every hit."
"My feelings don't matter."
Today, as fans were expecting the worst, Maurice shared a positive update on his captain's health:
"Maurice on Barkov's status today: 'He wasn't worse, so that's a really good thing. The real assessment will be tomorrow.'
He adds that if Barkov continues to make good progress they should be in 'good shape.'"
Sportsnet's Mark Spector added reassuring details, saying he believes Barkov doesn't suffer from a broken jaw, and that he shouldn't miss time, unless he has a concussion.
Here's what he said:
"Playing doctor here:
By this, we can assume it's not a broken jaw for Barkov. That WOULD be worse — swollen, sore, the next day.
So most likely a concussion issue. Which we all know is impossible to predict. IMO, only way Draisaitl is suspended is if Barkov is out. Doesn't sound out."
Do you think Aleksander Barkov will play in game three of the Stanley Cup Finals against the Edmonton Oilers?
