KHL team CSKA is openly defying a recent IIHF ruling, sparking controversy in the process.

CSKA Defies IIHF by Starting Fedotov

CSKA has announced that they will ignore the IIHF's suspension of goalie Ivan Fedotov, who will start in net for the team tonight.
For those who haven't been following the Ivan Fedotov saga, here's a brief summary:
1) Fedotov initially inked a deal with the Flyers.

Subsequently, he signed another contract with CSKA, which is against the rules.

The IIHF ruled Fedotov's contract with the Flyers as valid and suspended him from September 1st to December 31st.

CSKA received a one-year ban on making international transfers.

Today, Fedotov will be on the ice, meaning CSKA is openly flouting the suspension and boycotting the IIHF.
With Fedotov playing, all eyes are now on the IIHF to see how they will respond and whether additional sanctions will be levied against the KHL and Russia.
As it stands, Russia is currently excluded from IIHF international competitions due to its involvement in the war in Ukraine.
