NHL insider Chris Johnston revealed his thoughts on what the Leafs will do with forward Noah Gregor. Gregor signed a professional tryout (PTO) with the Leafs before the beginning of camp.
Johnston: I Expect Leafs To Sign Noah Gregor
Johnston was on TSN1050's First Up this morning to discuss all things Leafs. From The team's goalie situation to Connor Timmins' injury and Domi's role on the team, it was a packed show for Leafs fans. Among the topics discussed was the fate of Noah Gregor, who has been participating in Leafs camp on a PTO. show_image_318717_5
"I would expect Noah Gregor, who's in camp on a tryout, to sign a contract before next Wednesday and start the year with the team. You know, Robertson doesn't need waivers, so he's someone who could be sent to the Marlies and then brought up easily at any point when they might need some reinforcements."
Gregor spent last season with the San Jose Sharks where he got into 57 games, putting up 17 points including ten goals, three of which came as a hat trick. He has 178 career games played with 26 career goals and 51 points.
Robertson To Start The Season With Marlies?
Interesting that Johnston mentions Nick Robertson here, suggesting that he may start the season with the Marlies. Since Robertson is waivers exempt, this move may make sense purely from an asset management point-of-view especially if the Leafs really like Gregor.
Robertson has been a hot topic this preseason as he has been determined to make the Leafs out of camp and prove he can still be the player Leafs fans were hoping for when he was drafted.
