Paul Bissonnette, one of the most popular personalities covering the NHL, is a former enforcer turned hockey commentator who never hesitates to express his opinions, regardless of how controversial they may be.

Bissonnette Sens Strong Message To Gary Bettman

In a recent episode of the Spittin' Chiclets Podcast, Bissonnette shared his thoughts on linesmen actively trying to stop fights and speculated on who might be behind this effort.
If you're a f***ing NHL linesman and you're listening to this right now - STOP STOPPING FIGHTS. F*** off. If Kim Jong Bettman is telling them to not allow them to fight, on behalf of me tell him to f*** off. That is what's selling the game, that is what separates our game from the other major sports. And if you take that away, it's f***ing stupid. Allow it. You say everybody on their feet, you saw everybody online and any casual hockey fan, all of a sudden paying attention to that f***ing hockey game. So what did they do? They don't let them fight.
During Bissonnette's rant, Ryan Whitney interjects, suggesting that it seems like Bettman is instructing linesmen not to allow players to fight. It has become evident this season that linesmen have intervened on multiple occasions to prevent players from exchanging blows.
As fighting numbers in the league decline, rumors have circulated that the NHL may next target body checking for reduction. The league appears intent on attracting a younger audience while disregarding the fans who helped grow the game based on its physicality and fighting.
