Canadian hockey fans, particularly those supporting the Nordiques and Winnipeg Jets, could be significantly affected by the NHL's potential expansion to Atlanta. Renowned NHL insider Kevin Weekes recently hinted the next NHL expansion city on Twitter.
This new development sets the stage for two possible outcomes. The first scenario involves the NHL growing beyond its 32-team roster. If the league takes this route, it will need to seriously consider bringing a team to Quebec.
The second outcome, which may not sit well with Canadian hockey fans, entails the relocation of the Winnipeg Jets. Currently, the Jets' arena is the smallest in the NHL, except for the Arizona Coyotes'. In comparison, the AHL's Chicago Wolves play in a venue with over 1,000 more seats.
As Atlanta gears up to build an NHL-worthy arena, the looming question remains: will this project signal the end of the Winnipeg Jets, or pave the way for further NHL expansion, possibly extending to cities like Quebec?
