Higgins, 43, is a married father of two young daughters, and is someone with a USA military background. He was employed at Gaudenzia Inc., a drug and alcohol rehabilitation center.
It's deeply troubling that someone with a history of impaired driving-and apparent ongoing issues with alcohol-was working at an organization meant to help others struggling with addiction.
You would picture him to embody discipline and responsibility. But his actions have ended lives and left a permanent mark on many people worldwide.
After the news broke, Gaudenzia Inc. issued a statement placing Higgins on leave. Given his position and the nature of his past, there is a growing demand for more significant repercussions.
Many believe that, beyond just losing his job, the man in question should face significant legal consequences for his reckless actions.
As a community, we all want to see justice served. This tragedy has hit us hard, and we're coming together to support each other in this unimaginably difficult time.
