Toronto Maple Leafs could find the perfect trade partner for Nick Robertson in the Winnipeg Jets

The 22-year-old restricted free agent Nicholas Robertson has not signed a contract for the 2024-25 NHL season yet, and the 53rd overall pick in 2019 was clear when he discussed his intentions to leave the Toronto Maple Leafs organization:

A fresh start is exactly what the 5'9" forward needs after a rough start in the NHL. Last season, he finally had an opportunity to play a lot of games with the Leafs and ended up scoring 14 goals and 13 assists in 56 games.

Jason Robertson's brother has undeniable talent but struggled to live up to expectations. Joining another team could prove beneficial for his development.

In a new report, Editor in Leaf linked the young forward to the Winnipeg Jets. According to them, general manager Brad Treliving should try to target Cole Perfetti in a deal involving Robertson.

Perfetti, 22, has much more experience in the NHL under his belt. The 10th overall pick in 2020 has participated in 140 games in the big league and, like Robertson, has struggled in recent years.

Coming off a career-high 19-goal season with the Jets, Perfetti, also a restricted free agent, ended the 2023-24 season on the team's fourth line. Additionally, during the playoffs, he didn't make the lineup until the fifth game, possibly hurting his relationship with the organization.

A deal involving Robertson and Perfetti would make sense for both teams. Their respective strengths don't seem to be used to their full potential. If it gets done, the two players could sign bridge deals with their new organizations and finally prove that they belong in the NHL.

At this point, with only a few weeks before the start of training camp, Treliving will need to make a decision on Robertson's fate in Toronto fast. Stay tuned.
