Things got heated early as the tripping penalty to Svechnikov came just a little over half way through the first period. The Hurricanes forward was probably just trying to stir things up a bit, but he definitely crossed the line with this play behind the net.
That being said, the play certainly made things more interesting early and that energy has continued throughout the game. The Rangers were up in arms after the play as they stood up to defend their star netminder.
Shesterkin is not afraid to step up for himself too though as he is no stranger to getting physical. He followed the skaters as they moved towards the neutral zone, trying to get involved in the scrum himself. However, one of the linesmen quickly stepped in to direct the netminder back to his crease.
The game is now tied at 2 late in the second period. There have been huge momentum swings both ways, making for a very entertaining game. Be sure to tune in to see how the rest of it plays out. Will the Rangers take a commanding 2-0 lead or will the Hurricanes tie things up heading back to Carolina?
