The Ducks and Flyers made a major trade yesterday that seemingly came out of nowhere. Both teams sent top prospects the other way but the Ducks certainly got the better player.

Ducks And Flyers Make Prospect Swap With Major Trade

The trade saw the Ducks send a 2nd round draft pick as well as defenseman Jamie Drysdale to the Flyers in exchange for Cutter Gauthier.
TRADE: We have acquired left wing Cutter Gauthier from the Philadelphia Flyers in exchange for defenseman Jamie Drysdale and a second-round selection in the 2025 NHL Draft.
Not many saw this trade coming as it seemed to crop up out of nowhere. However, this deal has apparently been in the works for some time as we learned from NHL insiders following the announcement.

Insiders Reveal Reason Flyers Traded Gauthier To Ducks

The reasoning is quite simple. Cutter Gauthier reportedly did not want to play for the Flyers. In fact, the team reportedly even had trouble communicating with him as Gauthier reportedly avoided Flyers brass at the world juniors.
Flyers GM Danny Briere has been working on this trade for months. Gauthier wouldn't sign or talk with the Flyers, so they felt it was best to move on now.
Multiple reputable NHL sources all had the same info on the trade. Gauthier did not want to play for the Flyers. This seems like something that could have been avoided at the draft, although Gauthier was drafted by Chuck Fletcher, who is no longer with the team. Perhaps this change lead to Gauthier changing his mind about playing for the team.
Sources say Cutter Gauthier informed #Flyers organization he did not want to play in Philadelphia.
Regardless, this is a massive move for Gauthier, the Flyers, and the Ducks. While the Ducks are seen as the winners of this trade by many, Gauthier has yet to play an NHL game so we never know what might happen when he makes that jump.
