The Bruins are actively pursuing a Stanley Cup, while the Blackhawks are currently focusing on player development and building a strong fondation for the future.

According to a new report, and with the Christmas freeze ending soon, both teams could make a trade together.

Blackhawks and Bruins to Complete a Trade Involving Veteran?

The latest rumours suggest that the Blackhawks will place their veteran forward Tyler Johnson on the trade block. Johnson, 33, has a year left on his seven-year, $35 million contract.
In 34 games this season, he scored 11 points with the Hawks.
Earlier in his career, Johnson played an important role in the Lightning's back-to-back Stanley Cup wins.
Unfortunately, things didn't turned out too well for him after he was traded to the Blackhawks. He got injured two time, limiting his number of games to 82 in two seasons.

Johnson Traded to Boston? Other Teams Are Interested

Last summer, the Bruins lost both David Krejci and Patrice Bergeron. Since then, they've been looking at their options to add depth at the center position.
Johnson could be the solution to their problem. He may not be a top-six player anymore, but his experience could bring valuable depth to the team's bottom-six.
Unfortunately, other teams could be interested, complicating things for the Bruins. Pierre LeBrun thinks the Avalanche are also in the running.
"The problem for Boston? They traded their first-round pick this year last year for Tyler Bertuzzi as a rental,» LeBrun pointed out. «Colorado is looking for an upgrade in their top six. But again, acquisition cost. They don't want to spend too high a price; they've done that a lot in the last few years. But it's a name that will be near the top of our Trade Bait Board closer to March 8."
Given Johnson's $5 million salary, it's likely that the Blackhawks would need to retain a portion of his contract for a trade with Boston to materialize.
Furthermore, with other interested teams, financial constraints and the fact that the Bruins already traded this year's first round pick, the acquisition is far from guaranteed for Boston.
Where do you think Johnson will end up?
