Today the Buffalo Sabres and San Jose Sharks have made a trade to swap their first-round picks in the 2024 NHL Draft.

The Buffalo Sabres announced a few minutes ago that they have made a trade with the San Jose Sharks ahead of tomorrow's NHL Draft. The Sabres are trading pick 11 to the San Jose Sharks for the 14th overall pick and 42nd overall pick.
We have acquired the 14th and 42nd overall picks in the 2024 NHL Draft from the San Jose Sharks in exchange for the 11th overall pick in the 2024 NHL Draft.
The Buffalo Sabres have been looking to move around within the first round of the 2024 NHL Draft for days now. This move could be a precursor to something bigger as Kevyn Adams and the Sabres have been linked to Hurricanes star Martin Necas.
Pierre LeBrun believes that the team who has jumped to the front of the line on Martin Necas and may have a first-round pick on the table in a potential deal.

The Buffalo Sabres.
While the Buffalo Sabres first-round pick becomes less valuable in this trade they pick up an extra second-round pick which in this draft is more valuable than year's past. The 2024 NHL Draft class is not as good in the first round but provides solid depth that could interest the Hurricanes.
As for the San Jose Sharks' motivations, they are looking to build around their presumptive first overall selection Macklin Celebrini. Moving up to 11 could allow them to target a specific player that Mike Grier and the Sharks want to pair with the Boston University star.
With just over 24 hours until the NHL Draft begins, it will be fun to see if these trades lead to a domino effect of other moves.
