The Calgary Flames have officially traded their star goaltender Jacob Markstrom.
In breaking news, multiple reports confirmed that general manager Craig Conroy traded their number one goalie Jacob Markstrom to the New Jersey Devils:
"Believe Calgary's Jakob Markstrom is being traded to New Jersey."
"The #Flames have traded goaltender Jacob Markstrom to #njdevils.
Working on details."
"Markstrom to the Devils just as we all expected.
New Jersey gets their goalie"
Later, in an update, Darren Dreger revealed that the Flames would get the defenseman Kevin Bahl and a 2025 first round pick:
"Markstrom to the Devils. In return Calgary gets 23 year old Dman Kevin Bahl and a 1st round pick in 2025"
Also, the Flames will retain 31.25% of Markstrom's salary:
"Full trade: #NJDevils acquire Jacob Markstrom at 31.25% salary retained ($4.125M cap hit) for Kevin Bahl and a Top 10 Protected 1st round pick in 2025"
Markstrom was involved in plenty of rumours and speculation over the past few seasons. With two seasons left on his $6 million AAV contract, the time was right for the Flames to part ways with him. He joins a talented team who'll look to bounce back after a tough season.
As for the Flames, they can still count on Dustin Wolf and Dan Vladar for the next season, and now have an interesting defenseman in Kevin Bahl.
Stay tuned as we release updates on the full details of the trade.
