Today the Detroit Red Wings have made a trade involving former first-round pick Robby Fabbri to clear salary cap space sending him to the Anaheim Ducks.
The Detroit Red Wings are looking to make major upgrades to their team this summer. In order to make additions they needed to clear salary cap space. To do so they have traded Robby Fabbri and a 4th round pick to the Anaheim Ducks for goalie prospect Gage Alexander.
UPDATE: The #RedWings today acquired Gage Alexander from Anaheim in exchange for Robby Fabbri and a conditional 4th round pick in 2025.
After being selected in the first round in the 2014 NHL Draft Robby Fabbri has had a turbulent NHL Career. He has failed to carve out a role in the NHL beyond a good bottom-six forward. Now he will get another opportunity with the Anaheim Ducks.
For the Detroit Red Wings they clear much needed cap space and add a goaltending prospect by the name of Gage Alexander who played mostly in the ECHL. They have also already put that salary cap space to good use signing forward Vladimir Tarasenko who was one of the biggest names left on the market.
HEADED TO THE TARASENK-SHOW!
The #RedWings today signed forward Vladimir Tarasenko to a two-year contract with an AAV of $4.75M.
As the NHL season gets underway for 2024-25 it will be interesting to see if Robby Fabbri can get his career back on track or if dumping off his contract to add Vladimir Tarasenko was the right move.
