The San Jose Sharks have acquired defenseman Jake Walman and a second-round pick in the 2024 NHL Draft (53rd overall, Tampa Bay Lightning's selection) from the Detroit Red Wings in exchange for future considerations.

Walman, 28, had a standout season with Detroit last year, tallying 21 points (12 goals, nine assists) in 63 games, ranking fourth among Red Wings defensemen.
Griddy celly KING Jake Walman has been traded to the San Jose Sharks 🦈
Walman, drafted by St. Louis Blues in the third round (82nd overall) of the 2014 NHL Draft, had a successful college career at Providence College, and was part of the 2014-15 national championship team.
Jake Walman, acquired by SJ, is a middle-pairing two-way defenceman who loves to fire the puck (and scores a lot too). Looked like Seider's long-term partner but had a difficult season in 2023-24 (in admittedly extremely tough deployment).
With Tampa Bay's second-round pick added to their assets, the Sharks now have three second-round picks (33, 42, and 53) and five in the top 60 (1, 14, 33, 42, 53) of the upcoming NHL Draft. Once can argue Mike Grier just fleeced Steve Yzerman, even if the Red Wings GM was trying to get rid of $3.4 million.
You can't seriously tell me that you couldn't have gotten at least a mid-round pick for Jake Walman. Or that you had to include a pick just to move him. It makes absolutely no sense.
Hmmmm. Sharks get a second round pick to take Jake Walman, who has 2 years left at $3.4M. Clearing space for someone. Zadorov? Just a guess.
