Nothing has gone right for the Calgary Flames this season. With the team struggling even after an offseason coaching change many, including Flames players, are questioning the future of the team.

Kadri 'Not Interested In Rebuild' With Flames

NHL insider Darren Dreger reported today that Flames star forward Nazem Kadri is not interested in playing through a rebuild with the Flames. This comes just one year into a seven-year, 49 million dollar contract he signed with the team.
"Nazem Kadri, as an example, signed that long-term deal as a free agent with the Calgary Flames, well he wants to stay in Calgary, he wants to win with the Flames but if the Flames as an organization progress to a rebuild, he's not interested in that"
Kadri, like most of the Flames, has struggled this season. Through 14 games he has just two goals and six assists. This is despite the fact that he's gotten a slight bump in ice-time compared to last season. Furthermore, he is shooting just 5%.

Flames Face Multiple Tough Decisions

Kadri is not the only player the Flames have to worry about right now. Defenseman Nikita Zadorov has already actively requested a trade and contract negotiations with other players have stalled.
The team may have to face the reality that the season is lost. Does that mean this is the end for this core in Calgary? Multiple major players on the team such as Nikita Zadorov and Chris Tanev are already reportedly on the way out. As such, embracing a rebuild may be the best most for the organization going forward.
